Today, you’re going to explore space and learn the names of the planets in English. Our solar system has eight planets, and each one is unique and fascinating. By the end of this lesson, you’ll be able to name all the planets in English and know something interesting about each one. Let’s get started!
The Planets
1. Mercury
Mercury is the smallest and the closest planet to the Sun. During the day, it’s extremely hot, and at night, it becomes freezing cold because it has no atmosphere to hold heat.
2. Venus
Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system. Even though it’s not the closest to the Sun, its thick atmosphere traps heat, making it hotter than Mercury.
3. Earth
Earth is your home! It’s the only planet we know of that has life. Earth has water, air, and land, which makes it perfect for living creatures.
4. Mars
Mars is called the red planet because of its reddish color. Scientists think there might have been water on Mars in the past, and maybe even life!
5. Jupiter
Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system. It’s so big that more than 1,300 Earths could fit inside it! Jupiter also has a massive storm called the Great Red Spot that has been going on for hundreds of years.
6. Saturn
Saturn is famous for its beautiful rings, which are made of ice and rock. Saturn’s rings make it one of the most stunning planets to observe through a telescope.
7. Uranus
Uranus is a cold, bluish-green planet. What makes it special is that it spins on its side, unlike any of the other planets in the solar system.
8. Neptune
Neptune is the farthest planet from the Sun. It’s a dark, cold planet with extremely fast winds that blow faster than on any other planet.
